New York rock band Innerlove., released their incredible debut album Roscoe on June 9, 2023. The track list features a collection of immaculately curated songs that perfectly utilize a mix of pop rock, emo, and country twang.
Though still severely underrated, Innerlove. has been growing in popularity since the release of their first EP, Fine by Me, back in 2020. Roscoe has accelerated that growth significantly and it’s easy to see why after listening through the album. The band just returned from a short East Coast and Midwest tour following its release and based on their increase in Spotify listeners alone, it’s safe to say that they garnered some new fans.
The band is made up of Long Island natives, Ryan O’Rourke (vocals/guitars), Joe Rom (guitars/synth), Dan Sandoval (bass), and Jon Argondizza (drums). With their unconventionally relatable lyrics about subjects like growing up, depression, and solitude, Innerlove has paved their own way within the indie rock scene.
Roscoe starts out with two upbeat, hard-hitting songs “Ain’t Who I Wanna Be” and, a personal favorite, “10 in the Morning.” It then weaves through slower melancholic songs like “26” before finishing with “209,” a building, introspective track that leaves the listener yearning for Innerlove.’s next release.
Roscoe’s combination of midwest-emo and indie delves into a genre that I didn’t know I needed this summer. Listeners of bands like Pinegrove and Modern Baseball will adore the intricate lyricism and dynamic melodies present throughout the ten track album. If that sounds even remotely like you, Roscoe is definitely worth the listen.
