Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Penny Bored is singer and songwriter, Faith Alesia. The singer is on a mission to incorporate mental health into their music, in order to connect with their audience on a transparent level. Their vulnerability as a songwriter stems from their personal experiences, including social anxiety. Why not create sad music you can dance to?
“Conversations” is the type of song that will be stuck in your head for the rest of the week. As soon as you press play, captivating guitar riffs carry you throughout the song. Paired with that classic, yet memorable pop-punk drum beat and you have the perfect recipe. Their emotionally
fueled vocals make it easy to connect with what the song entails: their own struggles with social anxiety, while trying to find a way to gauge their thoughts. “I constantly catch myself practicing how I will face confrontation or even day to day small talk,” explains Alesia.
I’m just glad this song wasn’t just, “another conversation kept in their head,” — we need more artists bringing attention to mental health topics and normalizing the daily struggles that come along with it.
