Nightly “You Should Probably Just Hang Up”: Single Review

With much time to spare, many like myself have spent it on overindulging on new music and new genres. Nightly is no exception providing non-stop hits for us to put on repeat! Their third release this year and latest single, “You Should Probably Just Hang Up” released on May 22. It follows their song “the movies ft. charli adams” which dropped just a few weeks ago.

Nightly has been on a trajectory of success since their debut in 2016. This indie-pop and alternative-pop band from Tennessee have accumulated millions of streams on songs such as “XO” and “Twenty Something.” Their nostalgic songs have become staples for road trips playlists. Artists Jonathan Capeci, Joey Beretta, and Nick Sainato have managed to melange genres such as alternative, indie, dance, electronic as one. Having said that, it is their lyrical composition and use of electronic synths that keeps me coming back for more.

Their newest single “You Should Probably Just Hang Up” captures the essence of self worth and rejecting toxic relationship tendencies. Pretty deep huh? Upon hearing the song for the first time, I knew the song was right up my alley! The catchy rhythmic beats throughout the song had me putting it on repeat for hours. Their previous songs follow the same vibe: evocative and blissful. You can’t help but let memories of someplace or someone flow while you are listening to them. Some of their other older songs like “Younger” and “Twenty Something” are more classical and slow placed yet follow the same theme. While most of their music is about a deeper complicated love, you can’t help but dance to their music because of just how catchy they are! “You Should Probably Just Hang Up” follows the same trajectory feeling of nostalgia. Between the beautiful harmonization and catchy beat, this one is definitely making my summer playlist.

“While the lyrics of the new track are about heartbreak, Nightly, have a way of turning it into a gummy, glossy pop confection you just can’t resist,” Variance stated.

Nightly is a true representation of the word euphoric. Their newest single “You Should Probably Just Hang Up” is artistically constructed with the mixture of synths and vocals. Similar to artists like Lauv (who I love), their vocals are the main focal point in the songs which is what made me fall in love with their music for the first place. Often compared to other artists such as The 1975 or LANY, it can be agreed that their songs are like an experience within itself.
