On February 7, I made the trip back home to Binghamton, New York (from Buffalo, New York) to see Jigsaw Youth, an all-girl punk trio from Staten Island in a small basement owned by a friend. All of the bands and the crowds energy made it feel like the basement wasn’t as small. Jigsaw Youth played alongside with three Binghamton locals: hardcore band Unethical, rap group Brokeboys, and doom metal band MKDelta.
This was the second time I had seen Brokeboys and they did not disappoint, despite them being down a member. Yorgan of Brokeboys started their set off by playing some of their slower and more melodic songs. He finished off the set with their heavier material such as my personal favorite “Excalibur.” Connect with Brokeboys on Instagram.
The day after, February 8, Jigsaw Youth was scheduled to play Byrdhouse Records in Albany, New York. After a great performance the night before, I absolutely had to make the drive up. They played alongside Binghamton punk band Dirtybandaid and Kingston, New York’s punk band Hairbag. Both the turnout and energy in Albany were amazing. By my estimate, over fifty people packed into DIY venue.
If you’re eager for more, be on the lookout for Hairbag’s new album on March 14! Hairbag and Jigsaw Youth team up again on March 14 in Kingston, NY to celebrate the release.
The highlight from both nights would have to be when Raven Celtys, Dirtybandaid’s lead singer, joined in with Jigsaw Youth to do guest vocals on their song “Loser Punk.” Connect with Dirtybandaid on Instagram to be part of Binghamton’s powerful youth punk scene!
Stay connected with Jigsaw Youth and be sure to say hi at one of their upcoming shows!
