The crowd at Fine Line couldn’t help but be charmed by The Blossom, the LA-based non-binary pop artist who supported Wolf Alice on several dates of their US tour. The Blossom was the personification of joy as they leapt across the stage and playfully interacted with their bandmates during their set. Their catchy songs and stage antics further endeared the crowd and set the energetic tone for Wolf Alice.
Lily Lizotte, professionally known as The Blossom, was raised between New York and Sydney by Southeast Asian immigrant parents. The Blossom’s music reflects on these themes and details their personal experiences with mental health, underscored by dreamy indie-pop melodies. Their show at Fine Line was the final date of their tour with Wolf Alice.
By the time Wolf Alice stormed the stage with their rousing single “Smile,” the atmosphere was electric and that energy was sustained throughout the set. The crowd knew every word of their songs and couldn’t resist singing along to songs off their brand-new album Blue Weekend as well as old favorites, like debut hits “Bros” and “You’re a Germ.” The only time fans fell quiet was during an especially beautiful rendition of “The Last Man on Earth,” where the entire club was captivated into a powerful, silent reverence.
Wolf Alice sounded flawless, with frontwoman Ellie Roswell effortlessly navigating between clear and strong high notes and her signature punk growls and screams. The band was joined by touring keyboardist Ryan Malcs, who complimented the bands well-rounded sound. Roswell was fully consumed by the music, and appeared unbothered by the frequent declarations of love shouted by male fans.
