Medium Build’s tour stopped at Cat’s Cradle on September 30th. The show was opened by Josh Gilligan and Annika Bennett.
Josh Gilligan, who also plays a part in Medium Build’s band, opened the show with a solo set. His singer-songwriter sound was the perfect introduction to the night of music. His newest single “Tightrope” is out now.
Annika Bennett’s set was one I’ll be thinking about forever. This on-the-rise queen uses witty lyrics to tell her stories, while keeping them relatable and fun. She asked the crowd if any of them were gay, resulting in cheers of agreement. She took complete control over the stage even though it was just her and her guitar. And transitioned perfectly from her storytelling in songs like “Scared of Getting What I Want” to the pop anthem “Power, Sex, Dreams”. Her album Live From Mother Earth is out on October 18th.
Medium Build shows can only be described as cathartic. You’re guaranteed to leave the show feeling changed from when you went in. Starting the set with “Beach Chair”, the same way his album Country opens, is the perfect way to jump into his set. From old to new songs, to taking song request from fans who missed the VIP (shoutout to Jason), to talking about his dad, the show had something for everyone. He made sure that everyone took something from the show, by stopping to talk about it and their reason for coming out to a show on a Monday night. And encouraging everyone to scream during “Rage”. He made sure to acknowledge he doesn’t take this job for granted and it’s all because of the fans. I think it’s hard to put into words how much fun this show was, you just need to experience it for yourself. His latest single “Triple Marathon”
is out now. And you can check out his tour dates here!
