Modern Moxie at Petra’s Bar

Throughout Charlotte’s nightlife, some of the best Friday nights are celebrated by a trip to Petra’s Bar with either your best friends to kick off the weekend or with your co-workers after a tiring day at work. As for myself, happily clocking out after a long day of work and driving down to Petra’s was one of the best feelings I have ever felt as a concert photographer. 

Upon arriving, with the cameras in hand and waiting with anticipation, I excitedly waited for local indie rock band Modern Moxie to perform, along with bands such as local musician Shaun B and Virgina based band, Rikki Rakki. Previously traveling to Charleston and Greenville on the band’s Magical Mystery Mini Tour,  Modern Moxie ended their last night of their tour in the vibrant neighborhood of Plaza Midwood.

Throughout the performance, the twinkle of the Christmas lights and decorations weren’t the only thing that shined. Shaun B started out the night with beautiful acoustic tunes that enchanted the audience, to the point where parts of the audience, including myself and Modern Moxie’s Madison Lucas and Phil Pucci, were seated to listen to the lyrics of the sweet music.

Rikki Rakki was up next. The unique music of the band flowed throughout Petra’s, and after their performance, the words that I think would best describe their set are surprising and eccentric. The interaction between the band members, intertwined with the shred of each of the band member’s instruments created a powerful sound that I will definitely remember. 

Modern Moxie closed out their show with bang. Celebrating not only the conclusion of their tour, they also celebrated music of their albums Gutter Honey and Tripping The Light Fantastic. Blowing everyone out of the water, the band gave such a breathtaking performance, fueled by nostalgia and electrifying vibes.

Though I was saddened that Modern Moxie’s Magical Mystery Tour was over, I not only had purchased the band’s vinyl record, which has been on repeat since, but I was overly excited to hear what new music the band, Rikki Rakki and Shaun B will be releasing in the new year.
