There have been plenty of brother duos to grace our social palettes; the Salvatores, the Winchesters, and now, the Lynch brothers. The Driver Era, a pop infused alternative project put together by brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch, is a eclectic cluster of summer time nostalgia and feel good grooves. Reminiscent of perhaps a Charlie Puth tune, there is a certain ‘teenage dream, dipped in ice cream’ kind of sweetness to their music, with elements of hip-hop and a touch of, dare I say, R&B. And with 29 million social media followers and a mixtape on the way, these guys don’t plan on slowing down any time soon.
Following the dance anthem “Keep Moving Forward,” “Malibu” is a nice little ditty built for a drive along the coast with a good friend, or gathering under the tiki bar Christmas lights. An echoey vocal starts the song, then a poppy beat introduces itself to our eardrums. The boys show off that lower tenor voice, followed by a light, airy falsetto on the chorus. Overall, an enjoyable, candied track that will have you tapping your foot in no time.
Laced in escapism, brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch wrote the song while daydreaming about personal experiences. “‘Malibu’ is about reminiscing on experiences in the best locations,” the band stated, “It’s about getting away. It’s the spontaneous trip you take with someone — maybe you knew them before, or maybe you’re meeting them for the first time.”

The Driver Era, in addition to their banger of a song, have a massive end of summer tour starting August 1 in New Jersey, extending across 24 dates worth of new cities in the United States and Canada. Summer Salt and Almost Monday will join as the opening bands for these dates. Following, the guys will continue their ‘Girlfriend World Tour,’ playing shows in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK for the first time ever as The Driver Era.
An exciting time for any fan of theirs, as well as the whole team.
