Minnesota natives, Trampled by Turtles, stopped at the Treasure Island Amphitheatre in Welch, Minnesota on September 16th for a spectacular night of music. What was originally supposed to be a co-headlining date with beloved folk band, Caamp, turned into an intimate headlining show with surprise openers Deer Tick and Shakey Graves after Caamp had to pull out due to illness. Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Trampled by Turtles carried joyful fans through a lively set complete with a cover of one of Caamp’s most popular songs, “By and By.”
The first act of the night was Deer Tick. A band that I believe can best be described by the term “dad rock”. I had heard amazing things about the group previously and they definitely did not disappoint. With such a diverse and talented group of musicians, you truly can do no wrong. Between rotating vocalists and amazing solos, Deer Tick properly hyped up the crowd for the other acts to follow. The band is about to start a national headlining tour following the release of their album Emotional Contracts back in June. The tour even includes another stop at Minneapolis’s Fine Line, so be sure not to miss them!
